Word Weaving: The Science of Suggestion
The Word Weaving
In Word Weaving, Trevor Silvestor of The Quest Institute has combined the latest research in Neuroscience, Evolutionary Psychology and NLP to put together a working model for structuring specific suggestions. Although aimed at the practitioner, the book provides an interesting and informative read allowing the general public an insight into the inner working of the mind and the magical power of language.
It describes how our unconscious minds are responsible for most of our day to day behaviour, often outside our direct control, and how each person's reality is subjectively created by their, often limiting, internal model of the world.

Don't Look for Heroes; Be One!
I was inspired to write a few lines after reading a short article entitled Anthony Robbins On Being A Hero on NLP Weekly.
As human beings we very often limit ourselves by our beliefs - that is, we so often look at what we can't do and don't want that we forget, or stop believing in what we are capable of. We look at how successful other people are and admire them in a 'if only that could be me' way, sending a clear message to our unconscious that we are not capable of achieving the same or better.
As Marianne Williamson said in A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a "Course in Miracles"
:
NLP provides tools to understand our model of the world and the structure of our behaviour. With it, you can identify negative thought patterns, limiting beliefs and processes that are inhibiting you and change them.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Authentic Happiness
Positive Psychology focuses on a persons strengths rather than weaknesses, and asserts that happiness is created, rather than the result of good genes or luck. Dr Seligman teaches readers that happiness can be cultivated by identifying and using many of the strengths and traits that they already possess--including kindness, originality, humor, optimism, zest, and generosity. A key concept is that of Signature Strengths - we are happiest when we we can express our signature strengths in our daily lives.
The Authentic Happiness website contains much information on Positive Psychology, as well as around 18 free questionnaires on various aspects of Positive Psychology. If you do nothing else, we recommend you take the Signature Strengths questionnaire as it is very illuminating.
