How you could stop smoking in just two hours
We all know that smoking is bad for us, and we are constantly bombarded by messages telling us to 'get unhooked'. You might have tried to quit in the past, perhaps using patches, gum or willpower alone, but found that eventually you went back to it, perhaps at a time of stress, or found you gained weight, suffered cravings, or were bad tempered and irritable.
Newsflash - It's not nicotine that makes you smoke
We like to think that it is the nicotine in cigarettes which makes it so hard to quit, but this is simply not true. If it were, the Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT) such as patches and gum would be 100% effective for everyone, and people who had quit longer than the 48 hours it takes for your body to get over its nicotine 'addiction' would never smoke again.
The real reason smoking is 'addictive' is that your subconscious mind has a faulty program which believes smoking is serving a positive purpose. And because your subconscious mind is responsible for keeping you safe, it has many ways to override your conscious will, including making you feel tense and giving you cravings.
Hypnotherapy is the best way to quit
The combination of hypnosis and NLP is so successful in helping people to quit smoking because it effectively re-programs your subconscious mind to work with you to achieve your goal. In fact, Hypnotherapy was proven to be the best method of stopping smoking by a meta analysis of almost 72,000 subjects conducted at University of Iowa by Viswesvaran & Schmidt (1992), reported in New Scientist (1992 - Volume 136, Issue 1845, Page 6).
Their findings were as a result of an in-depth study of all methods of stopping smoking, and showed that Hypnotherapy in general is up to five times more effective than willpower alone and more than twice as effective compared with nicotine gum.
So how does it work?
Quitting smoking with Hypnotherapy generally takes a couple of hours. Some people like to do the whole thing in one go, though we generally recommend two one hour sessions. We spend the first session understanding your relationship to cigarettes and finding the best way to help you, with the treatment session following a week later.
This is because stress is often a major trigger for smokers, and we find clients are more relaxed in the second session - having already met us and found our practice. We also get you to do specific things in the intervening week to help increase your conscious control of your habit, so you come back mentally prepared to succeed.
We also use the information we get in the first session to create an intervention which is specifically tailored to your particular needs - rather than using more generic material which your subconscious mind may or may not identify with. This combination of benefits means most smokers need only two (very occasionally three) sessions total, and because we charge smokers our standard rates too (unlike some Hypnotherapists), you'll only pay for the number of sessions you actually need.
Avoiding Weight Gain and Cravings
People quitting with willpower or NRT often revert to other oral habits, such as nail biting or overeating because their subconscious mind still has a 'need' to fulfil. Hypnotherapy deals with these faulty subconscious programmes, which means you will not need to substitute another habit for smoking.
Similarly, because you will quit without tension or subconsciously created cravings, you will not be easily tempted by others as the subconscious desire to smoke will be gone.
